About Us
Freak Dog Kites was founded by Scott Polera in April of 2007. Scott has been passionate about kiteboarding for nearly a decade and he has always had a vision of bringing top quality, yet simple to use kiteboarding gear at affordable prices to kiters in North America. After extensive research of kite designers and manufacturers in the industry, he has found a perfect match to accomplish his goal - Work with the greatest and private lable the kites and work the marketing magic.
Freak Dog Kites has teamed up with designers, and developed an entire line of kites, lines, harnesses and boards to be released in North America under Freak Dog Kites flag. Years of research and keeping up with the newest technology are behind these kites. Each kite design is tested daily by professional riders and amateurs alike prior to its release. In this process the kites are ridden hard in various conditions to test their performance. They are crashed and smashed to test their durability and if necessary, adjustments are made to make the gear better. At the factory level, Freak Dog Kites always chooses the highest quality grade of materials available. As a result, we are able to deliver best end product to the marketplace with superior quality of construction, design and craftsmanship.
Freak Dog Kites' primary focus is kiteboarding, but we are also all about an active, fun and being true, to whatever your passion is, lifestyle.
For 2010, Freak Dog has made a decision to expand the line-up yet again! This season will be our hottest yet! We will have 3 new shapes, including our popular Performer, the all new Ritual, and our Mental, which we will show you as January draws closer.
Good luck to all of our past Team Riders, distributors, dealers and reps. We are a small company and we expect if you are ready to grow and expand you may just have to jump on board with a larger company. All we ever ask, is remember where it all started! We would like to especially thank riders like Gretta Kruesi, who recently sent us a very awesome email letting us know how she is moving up and thanked us for opening her eyes into the world of kiteboarding. Its riders and individuals like Gretta that will keep me involved as much as I can be in the sport. The rest of ya.. well, just don't be in my path when its windy because I just may not yeild to a right of way.. haha

Scott "Freak Dog" Polera
Freak Dog Kites was founded by me! I put this company together to fill a void I found missing in the industry, locally and beyond. Since the beginning I have prided myself on bringing you a quality product designed by the best people in the industry, and continue the quest on almost a daily basis. We are constantly changing the way people think about the kite industry, so remember one thing, just because it has been done this way for the last 3 years, doesnt mean there isnt a better more efficient way to achieve the same thing. . . |

Joe "Kaypa" Harkness
Freak Dog Kites is so stoked to have Joe on our Team. Not only is he our top rider, but he is also or VP of Operations and is involved in our day-to-day operations, sales, customer service, new accounts and so much more. He is either working at the shop, teaching lessons on the beach, or hounding shops for sales. Look for huge things from Joe in the upcoming seasons. |

Gary "G-Dawg" Rhodes
Gary joined our team last year during the Pismo 2008 demo event. Since then he is ripping up water anywhere there is wind. Gary has been on the road nearly this entire season, and has jammed heavy accomplishments while touring. To date he has been to most of our demos, including Pismo, La Ventana, Jupiter Kite Invasion, SPI Round Up, where he killed it on our new Freak Show.. He earned so many awards its insane, and took 2nd place overall! With a super smooth style and a diverse background in aviation, paragliding and of course, kiting, expect to read alot about Gary in the mags, on the forums and of course on the road! |

Mikey Bradley
Pro Kiteboarder and PASA certified instructor Mike Bradley is a true local hot shot in South Florida. Throwing down tight kite loops and boosting like no other, he is one radical rider that makes a dull day at the beach super fun to watch. Mike has been a friend of ours for quite a while and lucky for us, has become a rider, instructor and beach rep that truely holds his own both on and off of the water. If you hit any of the greater Miami beaches and see a tattooed up tall guy busting some of the most ridiculous moves, that would be Mike! |
 |
Pia
Team Kiteboarder Pia, our most outgoing rider on the team, the one who helps promote us like no other member of the team. Pia is actually quite famous around here, featured in several International Tattoo magazines, I think she is our most photographed rider as well. Pia came to us last year to learn to kite, and was a total natural. She picked up kiting faster than almost any student we ever taught, and for that she had to be added to the team. She lights up every promotion we do, and we are very thankful to have her with us. Look for big things from Pia, as she has no fear and will take to any challenge. |

Jose Luis "Jochie" Castillo Vasquez
Jose is our long time Cabarete resident team rider, instructor, and great friend. Jose basically introduced me to the kiteboarding industry and the many people he meets on a daily basis. With his awesome talent and personality, he is a true asset to Freak Dog. Lucky for us, Jose has come to the US a few times to assist in demos and show off his raw talent to a few who have been lucky enough to see his super smooth style. Visit Jose at Kite Club in Cabarete, DR, he is always there. |

Lacy "Team Gurr" Gurr
Lacy is one of newest team riders, and new to the sport. She has an unbelievable ability to truely charge it when on the water. After 3 days of teaching Lacy how to kite, she was riding upwind and jumping. Every day she is on the water, she goes bigger and has no fears when trying new things. Lacy has joined us all over the with her dad, Johnny, and gets to kite whenever she is not in class. Johnny takes her all over the world and is a huge inspiration to us all. Lucky for Lacy, Johnny loves kiting as much as her, so they get to go all the time! She is a one of the few Freak Dogs in Cali so look for her ripping it up.

Brock Skipperdene
Brock came to us at our debut release at Surf Expo, 2007. He was already riding our previous designer's kites and asked about joining the team, and of course we had to say yes. It turned out Brock was a bit of a kite celebrity and everyone I asked about him either knew him or his family. Brock is one of the lucky ones to reside in OBX and gets to kite all conditions and styles almost everyday while the rest of search for wind. In the summers, Brock hits Peru where his dad has a kite camp, and well, for those of you who know, gets to rip up a wave that breaks for nearly 2 miles. |
 |
Matt Spressor
Matt came to us while in La Ventana 2008. He has an awesome wake style, and is quite well known in the circles he travels with. Matt has a unique job where he works long hours for about 6 months, and gets to travel and kite for the other 6 months, and spends most of his time either in La Ventana, Las Vegas, Texas or anywhere there is wind and a camp site. |

Tony Otto
Well, I met Tony probably more than 15 years ago. He ahs been a super long time friend and of course tattoo artist. After I got going in the business I went to Tony to get his perspective on Freak Dog, and let me tell you, it was the best decision we ever made. Tony is responsible for most of our designs on the 2009 gear, and of course the incredible freak dog. Since the creation of the new freak dog, with his crazy look, everyone in the biz, came up to us and said.. its about time you actually have a freaky dog. Since then we added the ring master, ticket taker, and numerous board designs we are keeping secret until we decide you are ready for designs! Visit Tony while in Las Vegas at Iron Horse Tattoo, www.ironhorsetattoos.com or call his shop at (702) 866-6300 |

Blair Lilford
Blair is our Carribean connection, Cayman Islands / Bermuda, and now points all over. He lives in a paradise, takes days off from work to kite when the wind picks up and travels stateside whenever he feels like it. Such a life! You will want to talk to Blair if you ever visit any of the islands, or if you need gear etc. Blair has been with us for quite a while and he is very resourceful when it comes to saving his customers cash and getting top notch gear!

John "Moon Dog" Mooney
We met Moon Dog in La Ventana in 2008 while staying at a multi room house on the bay. Apparently John goes there every year to escape the cold winters, where from you may ask??? John lives slap dab right in the middle of Hood River gorge and kites virtually every day of the year. This old dog still has what it takes and rips on the water. He represents the (dare I say) the older crowd of kiters. Thank goodness he does! John has brought our name to many of the kiters who would have normally looked elsewhere in a tough market. Thank you John for the continuing support! |
 |
Steve Sadler
We met Steve at Surf Expo our first year, and he came to us with an opportunity we could not let pass us by. Steve resides in the greater Tampa area and is considered a voice of kiters, ok a pretty loud voice. He started to build up a non-profit organization to help keep kiteboarding super safe on his beaches, He is very active in the community and attends city council meetings and life guard seminars etc to keep his eye on the pulse of the beaches. Visit him at http://actionsportsfoundation.org/ |

Warren "Fire Dog" Sprague
Warren has to be one of the nicest people you will ever meet in the kiting industry, He is a long time friend and fire fighter in the greater Las Vegas area, and typically kites at a secret spot, ok, its Lake Mojave and apparently it is incredible. He calls it in the winter a 40-40-40 spot. 40 degree water, 40 degree air and 40mph winds. Warren also travels to just about anywhere we post up gear to be a part of our distribution chain. Thanks to Warren, we have gotten the dog out all of the south west and a few hidden surprises will be in the upcoming season, all put together by Warren. You rock! |
